Matt is an experienced imaging professional, artist, photographer, world traveler, and proud Athens resident. For decades, he has spent time behind one camera or another, fascinated by the moving and still image. He obtained a degree in Journalism & Video Production from the University of Georgia and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

His personal philosophy reads: Light. Changes. Everything.

His personal projects include a long standing series of unflinching self-portraits, and several collections of both natural & urban landscapes from his travels abroad. He is inspired by the works of Ansel Adams, Dieter Appelt,  Joseph Beuys, and Roland Gérard Barthes.

veneer (ve•neer)  /vəˈni(ə)r/ - n. A thin decorative covering. A superficially valuable or pleasing appearance. v. Cover or disguise (someone or something’s true nature) with an attractive appearance.

Matt King's Veneers is an invitation to view the surface underneath, the veneer revealed.  Matt explains that "this work expresses the dichotomy of turning inside out what we all seek to hide behind in order to expose what is innermost within myself." This work addresses how we construct veneers to wear; it takes an unflinching look at what such masks represent and what they hide.
