Hi. I'm David, and I'm the Head Editor here at Deeds Publishing.
I come to Deeds with over 15 years of experience as a professional editor. I've had the privilege of editing writing that's won National Magazine Awards, Pushcart Prizes, and awards from the Magazine Association of the Southeast, as well as work that's been included in a number of national anthologies. I enjoy close editing of manuscripts as well as big-picture, conceptual editing, and love working closely with writers of all kinds. In a former life I worked as a bookseller of both new, in-print books and rare and collectible books, so I've experienced most aspects of the book trade, from raw manuscript to successive drafts to proofs to final publication to sales off the retail shelf.
I have B.A. in Philosophy from the College of Charleston and an M.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia. I hope to complete my elusive Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at UGA in the next year or so.
I live in Athens, Georgia with my wife, Mary Anne O'Neal, and our three children. A dog and a cat are also in the mix, as are a variable number of freshwater fish.
Some of my favorite writers are Blaise Cendrars, Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, Joseph Mitchell, Patti Smith, Rebecca West, Bill Bryson, Lafcadio Hearn, Charles Dickens, A.J. Liebling, Luc Sante, and Julia Liz Elliott, to name but a few.
I'm still deep in mourning over the death of David Bowie, and shall remain so for a while yet.
