"Two Soldiers were seriously wounded today in an IED attack northwest of Baghdad..."  All too frequently we read something similar to this in the daily news.  For the Soldiers and families involved, it is not just a news snippet, it is a life altering experience.  A phone call from the military to the family typically comes within hours.

Roberta Quimby received that phone call on June 8, 2006, informing her that her son, SGT Brian Fountaine, serving in Iraq with 1-66 AR, 1BCT, 4th Infantry Division, had been seriously wounded by an improvised explosive device (IED).  That call changed her life.

Part of the way Roberta got through that challenging first year helping Brian recover was through almost daily email updates to her family and close friends.  In this book, Roberta has included those updates, written with all the ups and downs as she lived them, plus her reflections on those daily experiences.

You’ll see and feel the love this mother has for her Soldier son – she is a true heroine.  Read on and take an intimate look into what many military families are living through – the human reality of the war in Iraq.

What Early Readers Have Said

"This book really shows the human dimension of today's military.  It is a real testimony to reality and what sacrifice is all about.  All who appreciate their freedom should read it."

One of Brian’s Leaders in Iraq

“What a gutsy lady, holding it all together when Brian needed her most, and what a blessing Mary is. This story really is a huge eye-opener, even to somebody like me who thought she knew it all but didn't know the half of it…”

A British Supporter of our Military

“I think Roberta does a wonderful job of very honestly capturing her emotions, feelings and such as she walks the walk of a Mother whose son's life has been changed forever due to a tragedy of war.”

An Army Wife and Mother

“I really enjoyed the book. Anyone who has had, or has, or may have a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan would want to read the story.”

Retired Coach and Cold War Marine

"Roberta write with compassion and love and conveys these feelings to the reader.  It has a journal quality about it but she has documented it well for continuity.  I came to admire her and to feel compassion and sorrow for her son's terrible injuries.  I couldn't put it down."
