Everyone has at least one story that needs to be preserved for future generations.

Yours can be included in the next volume of

“Preserving Life’s Stories”

Have you ever wished that one of your relatives or friends, now deceased or incapacitated, had written down that favorite tale about their life? I know that I have – my father and grandfather were both railroaders and I’d give anything if we had preserved their stories of steam locomotive days, train wrecks, hoboes, etc. My father-in-law was a WWII and Korean War Marine who died before his stories were preserved, so we’ll never know what he had to tell us.

How often have you told the same story over and over again because it is such a key part of your life? Have you done anything to preserve that story for future generations to enjoy and learn from after you can no longer tell it?

Deeds Publishing is starting a new service to address that – we’d love for you to participate in it and help us develop this concept.

In this section of our web site, we will include Short Stories submitted by you, our readers. They can be virtually any of your life’s stories, with a maximum length of 15 pages per story. More than one story per person can be submitted.

Your Story can be included in a Published Book

Once we collect enough stories to produce a book of about 200-250 pages, you will be given the opportunity to participate in the publication of your short story, along with those submitted by others. There’s never been an easier or more inexpensive way to become a published author.

Those who choose to participate in the book will share in the cost of editing, layout, printing, and publishing – and will be able to pre-order as many copies of the book as they choose at a cost of 20% over the actual printing cost of the book (most books are marked up many times over the actual cost). Our current thoughts are a cost to you of approximately $20 per page, plus the cost of the books you order – a ten page story, included in a book, would cost you $200 plus the actual printing cost of the books you order, marked up 20%.

Additional copies of the book will be printed so you can order more, at the same reduced cost, as you need them. Plus, once we sell out, the print-on-demand technology we will use for the books allows us to print more quickly and inexpensively. Authors have the right to resell the books they buy for whatever price they choose.

Get Creative – Books Focused on a Specific Set of Stories

Maybe your church would like to have a book of stories from various church members or your military unit wants a book with stories from those who served together at a key time in history, or your high school or college classmates want to collaborate to create a book… the options are limited only by your imagination. Talk to us, and let us help you create a personalized book for your group.

Guidelines and Limitations:

Deeds Publishing reserves the right to refuse any stories submitted, for any reason (we’re looking for good personal stories that need to be preserved for future generations, not political opinions, negative talk, obscene work, etc.).

We will do basic editing (spelling, grammar, punctuation) on each story submitted. If major editing is required, the story will be sent back to the writer to correct – or, we will be happy to do an extensive edit at our current hourly editing rate.

The author of each story will sign a release holding Deeds Publishing harmless from any lawsuit that might arise from using your story, and the author will give Deeds Publishing non-exclusive rights to use the story in a book and on our web site. The author maintains ownership of the story and can submit it to other sources as he/she chooses.

The author agrees to pay his/her pro-rata share of the cost of editing, layout, design, and printing of the book – currently $20 per page, or portion of a page. Pictures, if included with the story will be included at a rate of $10 per picture.

Deeds Publishing reserves the right to include or take stories off our web page at our sole discretion. Our current plan is to take stories off the web page once they have been included in one of our books, plus, if we have too many stories, we will rotate them on and off the web site.
